Microsoft windows 8.1 professional is available as a free upgrade to Windows 8 and Windows RT users’ retail copies through the Windows Store. Mainstream support for Microsoft Windows 8.1 ends on January 9, 2018, but extended support does not expire until January 10, 2023.
Windows 8.1 aims to resolve the complaints of Windows 8 users and reviewers. Visual improvements include improved startup screen, additional snap views, additional bundled apps, stringent OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) integration, Internet Explorer 11, Bing-powered integrated search system, restore the Start button found in the taskbar, and the ability to login to the front Slideshow Restore mainstreams.
Windows 8.1 supports emerging technologies such as high-resolution displays, 3D printing, Wi-Fi Direct, and Microsoft streaming, as well as the RFS file system.

Update in applications
Windows XP Support Deadline On April 8, 2014, Microsoft released the Windows 8.1 update, which includes past updates and new features. This was unveiled by Vice President of Microsoft at the Mobile World Congress on 23 Feb, 2014 and also fully explained at the Microsoft Build Conference on 2 April.
He noted that the update reduces the minimum device requirements for operating systems, so it can easily be installed on systems with 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage. Unlike Windows 8.1, this cumulative update is delivered by Windows Update and must be installed for Windows 8.1 to get even more patches.
In April 2014 Conference, Microsoft’s Terry Myerson unveiled more user interface changes for Windows 8.1 pro, including the ability to run metro-style applications on operating systems and a modified start menu, creating a compromise between the initial menu design used by Windows 7 and the Start screen. Myerson notes that these changes will occur in a future update, but will not elaborate further.

A suite of pre-loaded applications in conjunction with Windows 8 has changed in Windows 8.1; The PC settings have been expanded to include options specific to the desktop control panel, the Windows Store has been updated with a better interface for browsing apps and automatic updates, the Mail app has an updated interface and additional features, and photosynthesis is integrated to create the camera app.
The additional editing tools have been added to the Photos applications. Many additional applications have been added to this new version, including a calculator, food and drink, health and fitness, sound recorder, reading list, scan and help + tips.
For Windows RT users, Windows 8.1 adds a version of Microsoft outlook to the included Office 2013 RT suite. However, it does not support creating emails with data loss protection, group policy, link integration or data rights management. The Windows Store is enabled by default in the Windows to Go environment.
